Thighplasty, or thigh lift, is a surgical procedure that improves the shape and smoothness of the legs by lifting saggy tissue of the thighs and buttocks, thereby improving the appearance of the body contour.
Before surgery
The plastic surgeon will inform the patient of the standard pre-operation regulations with regard to taking or avoiding certain drugs, iron supplements, tobacco, fluids and food intake, post-operative compression garment, etc.
Surgery
The thigh lift is a procedure performed in the operating room under general or epidural anaesthesia. Surgery lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
The incision is proportional and depends on the amount of excess tissue and the anatomy of the patient in question. The incision is located on the inner side of the thigh near the groin so that it can easily be concealed by underwear or a swimsuit. Drainage valves are to be left after surgery.
After surgery
The patient can normally go back to work 15 days after surgery, depending on the type of job and their progress. Changes in sensitivity are normal and there is usually swelling in the legs too that will disappear with time.
Results
The thigh lift is an effective procedure that provides an excellent aesthetic body contour but does leave permanent scars. The results may be assessed after a few months and can be permanent if the patient continues on with a proper diet and regular exercise.
